Initial reports have confirmed that Krrish 2 will feature Hrithik Roshan saving the Seven Wonders Of The World with Vivek Oberoi portraying the antagonist in the movie.
Following the success of Krrish, director Rakesh Roshan planned to develop a sequel for the film with Hrithik Roshan playing the protagonist again. He had penned the script in early 2007, but had to re-work on it as the storyline was drastically similar to the Hollywood blockbuster Spider-Man 3.[6] Priyanka Chopra was later confirmed to reprise the role of Priya. In this film, she will be seem married to Krishna Mehra.[7]
Next, Chitrangada Singh announced her inclusion in the project as a mutant.[8] Singh was later replaced by Jacqueline Fernandez, who also backed out of the film.[9][10] It was reported that actresses Nargis Fakhri and Esha Gupta were to replace Fernandez.[11][12] Kangana Ranaut has finally been confirmed to play the role.[11] It was also reported that Katrina Kaif would feature in a special role in the film, but this has not been confirmed as of yet.[13] Rakesh Roshan had earlier revealed to media that the main antagonist of film would be as powerful as the hero.[14] After talks with Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan went kaput, Vivek Oberoi was eventually cast for the coveted role.[4][15]
In January 2011, Lakshmi Manchu claimed to have been offered a role in the film as the antagonist's girlfriend.[16] Riya Sen is rumored to play the role. The film has already started making profits. Its overseas distribution rights were sold to Eros International while Rakesh Roshan retained rights in Mumbai.[17] There was also initial speculation that Rekha would play a major role in the film, which was later denied as a rumour.[15]
Filming commenced on December 1, 2011 with Oberoi, Ranaut and Chopra. However, Hrithik Roshan will not participate in the first schedule due to a back injury.[18]
The songs of the film have been composed by Rajesh Roshan, whilst the background score was taken care of by Salim-Sulaiman. The music rights of the film was acquired by T-Series for 6 crore (US$1.14 million).[19]
